Grace-Goad

Since the artist is not conversational, her family is often asked how Grace reacts to the considerable media attention she’s received. From her mom’s perspective: it doesn’t phase her. Grace is a pure soul with zero ego. She just wants to make art and totally digs the creation process. The amount of attention she began getting for her work, around 2006, at age 11, didn’t seem to phase her. But that changed. A little.

In 2007, Grace’s mom got an email, which she first thought was a joke, from a producer of ABC’s “The View.” Hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselback were producing a special episode on autism and they wanted Grace to be featured for her art. Within a week, Grace and mom boarded a plane and spent two days in the city, including the filming before a live audience. The episode featured at least three other families and Temple Grandin. This was Grace’s first trip to the Big Apple and she’d never seen buildings so tall. She craned her neck looking up around her at the oddity. And, she also took note of the doting she received in front of and behind the camera. That’s when it clicked with Grace. People liked her art. But the awareness is just that. It ends there. In the years since, taking in that people really appreciate her art, that they come to her exhibitions and pop-up booths, and that they purchase her work and compliment her profusely, her awareness has grown. But the ego: nada.

Grace Goad’s art is her mode of expression to the world. People often remark how her work communicates joy. Grace is a joyful soul and her art is the beauty of her pure, unconditionally loving heart. Local, national, newspapers, magazines, mention and features in three books, and a growing collection online media have spotlighted about her work. Also of special note is Al Jazeera America, 2014 and in New York Times, 2016. For more, dating back to 2001, see below.
