“Up and Down” was created by Grace at age five and exhibited in the Senate-Dirksen Building in Washington, DC, as a part of the Creative Arts Therapies on the Hill conference in 2000. It was presented afterwards as a gift to United States Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, MD, of Nashville, Tenn., in gratitude for his efforts to pass the Child Health Care Act of 2000. The Act was the first time federal monies were allocated in a step toward greater funding equality for autism proportionate to other child health disorders.
